Soy bean oil

  • Processing soy beans yields soy bean oil (18%) and soy flour (80%).
  • Soy beans come from the Far East originally, but the United States, Brazil and Argentina are the largest producers. Even though the soy bean has been cultivated in China for many centuries, it was not imported to Europe until 1910.
  • The beans are similar to peas and many varieties are grown. The oil is used mainly in foodstuffs, whereas the flour is used mainly in cattle feed.
